About
Kevin
Originally from Banbury, England, Kevin Healey turned
professional in 1992. His goals at the time were to play tournament
golf and get his full card on the European Tour. During this time
Kevin taught and played with members at his golf club and he became
a fully qualified member of the PGA in 1995. He combined playing
and coaching until 1997, where at that point he decided on becoming
a full time golf coach.
In 1998, he moved to a relatively new golf school near Open Championship
venue, Royal St Georges in Kent, England, where he created coaching
programs and brought new people into the game and coached alongside
Phillip Sparks, a respected coach and entrepreneur who Kevin to
this day rates as one of the biggest influences in his career. He
stayed there until a coaching job became available in 1999 at Nicklaus/Flick
golf schools in London.
Kevin moved to Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools in Gravesend near London.
He generated a position that began without any lessons which eventually
saw 70-80 lessons being booked weekly. He also created new coaching
programs for the school with the other instructors and redeveloped
existing ones.
In 1999 a colleague of Kevins returned from Australia. Knowing
that Kevin was coming over to Australia for Christmas holidays he
told him about Gary Edwin, an Instructor based on the Gold Coast
who at that time was responsible for developing many good players,
notably Rod Pampling and Peter Lonard but also had an interesting
theory on the swing. After one lesson with Gary during the holiday,
Kevins swing and game improved remarkably.
Kevin emigrated to Australia in 2000, and after an initial learning
period he spent 6 years as a senior coach with the Gary Edwins
golf academy at the Glades on the Gold Coast. This gave him the
experience he needed to become a more knowledgeable coach and get
results with all levels of players. Very early on Kevin assisted
Gary with professionals like Peter Lonard, Peter Senior, Rod Pampling,
but as time went on he developed his own client base and stable
of players .
Now in 2007 Kevin has 11 Tour players (listed below) that he currently
coaches, plus a large following of top amateurs and club golfers
of all ages and abilities. He has been involved with Griffith University
for 6 years as a Lecturer and coach with the Golf management and
skills program, and more recently over the last 2 years has been
working with the new PGA International Golf Institute.
With moving to Hope Island he brings a wealth of experience and
knowledge, plus great ambitions for taking the Hope Island Golf
Academy to new heights with Peter Cote.
